Are you really proud?

Every time we compare India, with other countries, we invariably speak of our greatness, our history, rich culture, tradition, etc, we consistently boast of our country’s greatness. However we certainly never speak about national infrastructure, educational system, Health services, economy, GDP, etc. My concern is why we almost always brag about our history?

British ruled India for more than 200 years and when they left, India was a multi-religious, multi-regional, multi-ethnic country, exploited, backward, and poor from colonialism. Today even after 67 years of Independence, nothing much has changed. We are still suffering from inflation, poverty, unemployment, poor governance and above all corruption.

We never fail to boast about ourselves being the smartest people on the planet. The truth is “We are the worst” we are simply a bunch of egoistic hypocrite fools who love to blame. Can’t we recognize one simple thing that we ourselves are responsible for our country’s present situation? Instead of standing together we just fight among ourselves like fools.

Do you call this freedom? Are we really free? I am darn sure our freedom fighters never expected this kind of future for our country India. Bhagat Singh and many others sacrificed their lives not for any other reason, but for India and what exactly are we doing?

I was taught in school and I am sure everybody knows about the fundamental Rights of an Indian which are Right to equality, freedom, religion, education, etc. Do you really think we have any of these Rights , as far as I know we don’t , because if we possessed any , then presently there wouldn’t have been reservations , caste and minority issues , gender bias , child labor , human trafficking and religious riots . Would you call this freedom, wherein you can’t even express his thoughts? Some individuals got arrested simply because they expressed their thoughts on Facebook and twitter. How can you call this freedom where our women don’t feel safe in their own country? According to a survey among all G20 Nations India has been rated as the worst country for a woman to live , yet still we kept on calling ourselves great such a shame . Should you really feel proud when you see our country in such poor condition? I don’t.

If we are smart enough and that intelligent, then why don’t we stand against those power greedy politicians who demand separate states just to fulfill their political means? Why don’t we act when people do scams, take bribes, loot our country and our country men? Why we turn blind eyes when an innocent girl is raped brutally. These are big issues and I know these can’t be solved in one day, but at least we all can make an effort.

India is not, as people keep calling it, an underdeveloped country, but rather, in the context of its history and cultural heritage, a highly developed one in an advanced state of decay. Our fight for freedom was not easy hundreds and thousands died for our country and we have no Right to waste the sacrifices of our freedom heroes. Let’s contribute whatever we can to save our India and our fellow Indians. I will be proud when I will do something for my India.

“India shaped my mind, anchored my identity, influenced my beliefs, and made me who I am. India matters to me and I would like to matter to India.”
